GCA Leads the Way in Environmental Sustainability | Awarded with the Green Dot Encouragement Prize for the EKOMAT Project

On December 17, 2024, the "Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Conference and Green Dot Industry Awards" event was held in Istanbul, organized by the ÇEVKO Foundation, with broad participation from public, private sectors, NGOs, and academia. GCA, one of the leading brands in the glass packaging industry, participated as a Gold Sponsor and received the Green Dot Encouragement Award.

The Green Dot Industry Awards, organized by ÇEVKO (Environmental Protection and Packaging Waste Recovery and Recycling Foundation), recognize national and global industrial organizations that stand out for their contributions to sustainable living and use the “Green Dot” symbol in Türkiye. At the awards ceremony held for the 8th time on December 17, 2024, GCA made a remarkable impact with its environmentally friendly and sustainable initiatives in the glass packaging industry. Supporting the event as a Gold Sponsor, GCA reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable production and contributions to the circular economy, earning the Green Dot Encouragement Prize for its EKOMAT Project.

During the event, experts shared their insights in various sessions on waste regulations, extended producer responsibility (EPR) practices, and sustainable production. The main points of discussion were the waste regulations in the European Union, the EPR practices in Türkiye and the solutions for a sustainable production.

“EPR Model Ensures Efficient Use of Resources”

In his opening speech, GCA General Manager Dr. Abdullah Gayret emphasized the critical importance of conserving natural resources and transitioning to a circular economy. Highlighting the solutions provided by the EPR model against the pressures of increasing consumption and industrialization on nature, Dr. Gayret stated:

“The EPR model reminds producers of their responsibilities throughout the entire lifecycle of their products, enabling more efficient use of resources. However, today’s understanding of sustainable production should not be limited to measures taken during production processes. It is vital for all producers to adopt innovative approaches that minimize waste and emissions throughout the product lifecycle. At GCA, we take pride in leading this transformation with our 100% recyclable glass packaging.”

Dr. Gayret emphasized GCA's commitment to environmental sustainability, stating, "We invest in innovative technologies to reduce our carbon footprint and continue to strengthen our commitment to the circular economy with concrete projects," once again demonstrating their commitment to environmental awareness.

EKOMAT Project Wins Green Dot Encouragement Prize

In the category of “Environmental Social Responsibility Practices,” GCA received the Green Dot Encouragement Prize for its EKOMAT Project, which promotes the recycling of beverage packaging, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability. Sharing his thoughts on the award, Dr. Gayret underlined the importance of increasing environmental awareness:

“Through innovative projects like EKOMAT, we are determined to foster environmental consciousness and promote a culture of recycling within society. Such efforts are not only crucial for protecting our environment but also play a vital role in ensuring the sustainable future of our industry.”
